Supporting women, children & young people

Moving on from Domestic or Rape and Sexual Abuse

Information

Moving on

Moving on from abuse by someone who was close to you takes time and can be difficult. Once you are away from the abuse, and it is safe to feel again, you may experience very mixed emotions. It is not unusual to feel grief, pain and a profound sense of loss.

Inverclyde Women’s Aid can support you even where the abuse happened a long time ago. Our outreach service is also available to women and families who are moving on from our refuge service but may still need some support in the community. Our group programmes help women, children and young people make sense of their experiences. We organise family and group activities where women and children can have fun together and make new friends. By focussing on your strengths we can help you to imagine a different kind of future for yourself and your children.

We know that, with the right support, survivors of domestic abuse can recover from its effects and live safe and fulfilling lives.
