Safety Tips

This section provides some advice to help you keep safe. The information below should be followed at your discretion. It is important to know that you are not responsible for avoiding or creating abuse. Abusive behaviour is the responsibility of the person causing harm

  • If you are experiencing immediate threat or harm – Call 999, if it is unsafe to talk press 55 at the beginning of the call. This will alert the operator of your situation.
  • Some mobiles have an SOS feature that will call the emergency services if you are unable to make a call. For information on how to do this click here.
  • The Hollie Guard App is a personal safety app that lets your safe contacts know where you are and can send out alerts when activated.
  • Ask for Angela is the national scheme that helps anyone who is feeling vulnerable or unsafe on a night out to get the support they need. Simply ask hospitality staff for “Angela” and they will discreetly provide assistance.
  • Contact Police Scotland for the Disclosure Scheme for Domestic Abuse Scotland (DSDAS). If you are worried about your or a friend’s partner might have an abusive past, you have the right to ask.
  • If you have secret phone for safety, you can turn off emergency alerts to avoid detection. For advice how to do this click here.
  • Use Technogym wisely. If you suspect you are being tracked or that your online use is being monitored, you turn off your location/Bluetooth. For internet browsing, clear your history and try using public computers or another secure device.

  • Trust your instinct, if you feel unsafe take your feelings seriously. Abusers often use tactics of intimidation, control, gaslighting and manipulation to try and distort your reality, invalidate your feelings and to impart blame for their behaviour.
