About Inverclyde Women’s Aid
For over 35 years, Inverclyde Women’s Aid (IWA) has been providing information and advice to women, children and young people on domestic abuse, rape and sexual abuse across Inverclyde.

IWA is affiliated with Scottish Women’s Aid. All its services are free, impartial, and confidential, aimed at providing a safe space away from abuse, violence and oppression.

The Role:
The role of Director provides an exciting opportunity to get involved at a stimulating time for IWA. We’ve just launched a new website, we are in the process of moving office and there is more to come. It’s all happening at IWA and we need a Director to build on our legacy of the last 35 + years and tap into the potential for developing our resources and services.

You will lead and support the organisation. You will provide structure to the IWA team through the delivery of domestic and sexual abuse survivor services, finance, fundraising, business and partnership development, administration, facilities management, human resources, health and safety, ICT, and internal and external communications.

You will work closely with our Board to ensure we comply with legal and regulatory requirements and good practice in all aspects of our work. This includes accounting to funders and meeting all funding conditions.

There is scope for IWA’s development and growth. The new Director will seek to develop our reputation as a provider of excellent services by designing and championing new opportunities and partnership development.

The Candidate:
Who are you and what can you bring?
First and foremost, you’ll be a strong values-based leader with a track record of delivering services.

You do not have to come from a background working with anti-violence or abuse services, but you should be able to demonstrate a passion for the aims and mission of the service.

You will also have experience of running an organisation and leading and/or developing projects and services. You will have excellent organisational and governance skills, with experience of working closely with a Board in a professional capacity. You will relish a fast-paced environment and will have the ability to prioritise and delegate tasks effectively. Additionally, experience of developing funding initiatives, income streams or working with grants will be helpful. As a strong decision maker, you will also be financially competent.

Ideally, you will have one or more of the following qualifications:

  • SVQ Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 9
  • SVQ Care Services Leadership and Management SCQF Level 10
  • Any award in management that is certificated at or above SCQF Level 9* (min 60 credits) and mapped against the National Occupational Standards: Leadership and Management for Care Services SCQF 10.

If you do not have these qualifications, we will support you to complete them within three years.

The Board will consider compressed hours or a 4-day week for the right candidate. The Director is a keyholder and therefore must live within a 45 minute – 1hour journey of Greenock. More details can be found in the job description below.

Who Are We

For nearly 40 years, Inverclyde Women’s Aid (IWA) has been providing vital support services to women and children across the Inverclyde region. These are free, impartial, and confidential services, focused on providing a safe space away from abuse, violence, and oppression. Our team of support workers offers housing advice, counselling, signposting, and employability as well as financial and practical support for women and families to build brighter futures for their lives.

Who Are We Looking For

You’ll have experience of providing support and information to vulnerable children and young people. This will include emotional regulation, domestic abuse, crisis intervention, assessment of risk, safety planning, carrying a caseload, multi-agency, advocacy, and information. Any recognised childcare qualification or equivalent, as listed on the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) website, is essential.

You will understand the dynamics, impact, and scale of emotional dysregulation, domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence, especially in relation to children and young people. Experience of supporting children and young people in an education setting or community organisation is vital for this role, as is liaising with agencies and advocating on behalf of service users.

You will bring to the post:

There is a requirement to work variable shift pattern which may include evenings and weekends. You will have a full driving licence and access to your own transport and be willing to travel throughout Inverclyde, business insurance would be required.

What you will be doing

You will provide practical and emotional support programmes for children and young people who are referred to us through schools, education and other agencies and complete and maintain all relevant paperwork. You will also develop and deliver age appropriate support programmes for children and young people who have been affected by domestic abuse, as well as early intervention and prevention, emotional regulation programmes in educational or community settings for young people at risk of being excluded from mainstream education. Maintaining the confidentiality of those accessing the service is vital, as is ensuring that all confidentiality agreements are signed. There will be occasions when you will be called upon to prepare relevant reports for Children’s Panels, court proceedings or case conferences.

During the course of your work, you will promote the service to community groups, youth organisations and education providers to support and encourage children and young people to use our services. You’ll work on your own initiative but liaise closely with team members to ensure all aspects of the service are covered, which requires flexibility to meet the needs of the service.

Promoting effective partnership working and developing strong links with professionals from external agencies and the community are essential to maximise the support available for children and young people. Promoting our work, and the rights and needs of women who experience domestic abuse, to service providers and policy makers is also part of the role.

What you will get

The salary for the role £15.90 ph. You will get 42 days annual leave including public holidays. There’s a pension contribution, enhanced sickness pay and access to private healthcare. There will be opportunities for your own learning and development and coaching/mentoring will be available

Refuge Support Worker

Role: The Refuge Support Worker will provide a high quality and specialist support service to women living in Refuge working to ensure their safety and recovery. Applicants must also be qualified to SVQ level 3, or equivalent in a relevant qualification and registered (or willing to register) with SSSC.

Salary: £26,270 per year fte.

Hours: 35 hours per week.

Location: Hybrid. WASLER Level 3 Edinburgh House East Kilbride, G74 1LJ
